My first one moving out of the house was avocado green and was a gift from my parents. I guess now that color is coming back? (srsly?) It's funny how that ugly green thing ran for all my childhood life (I don't remember my parents ever owning a different one) and was running when I gave it away to a guy for a beer fridge, yet the newer ones always seem to crap out after five years...

At least yours is white and not harvest gold or almond or some other such horrific color!

This is the company I was talking about that sold appliance handles: http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/Search.aspx?c=2&action=n

Definitely worth requesting their catalogs too; the hardware one alone is worth browsing through for home modification inspirations.

I stand corrected, Thomas. All I know is that refrigerator is OLD. Thanks for sharing your chalkboard/fridge project!

Let's be reasonable that's really more of a mid 80's fridge if I ever saw one.

My first dishwasher was a "Lady Kenmore." Talk about outdated in style, function and political correctness.

Great idea. You might check out the project I did with an aged freezer I got for my wife and I. http://www.handsomeorhandy.com/?p=66

With a roll of masking tape, a couple cans of chalkboard spray paint a person could really dress up and nifty-fy an old appliance. There's places you can even buy new door handles for them, which would make for a complete facelift!
