I’m excited to share the news that I’m teaching my first craft workshops next spring at Sharon Art Studio in San Francisco! I’ll be teaching three classes in February/March: 1) Paper Lantern Making, 2) Duct Tape Wallets, Cases, and Bags, and 3) Fabric Flower Brooches. Click here for more information on the workshops. So, if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area and you want to learn these crafts, please sign up early. You can register for the classes here. By the way, craft classes make great Christmas gifts. I look forward to meeting some of you in person and making crafts together!
UPDATE 2/3: Unfortunately, these classes were canceled for health reasons. Not to worry, though. I will post my instructions to make the tissue paper lanterns (bottom three lanterns in the photo) and some of my duct tape crafts here on Crafty Nest.
See below for the rest of the tutorials:
Paper star lanterns (or you can buy gorgeous ones here)
Duct tape wallet
Wired ribbon flower pin (the pink one in the photo)
Felt dahlia corsage (the red one in the photo)
Melted fabric flowers (the white one in the photo)

Aw, I’d love the flower class, but I’m not only not in the right state, I’m in the wrong country. And wrong hemisphere!

That’s awesome! Wish I wasn’t on the other side of the country!

I have a question for you on the duct tape wallets, etc. (I’d ask at the class, but I live 3000 miles away) – we’ve made duct tape purses and bags before. They are super cute – but also stink! The duct tape has a *bad* odor – so much so that despite the cute factor on the bags, my kids don’t want to use them. It’s been months and they still smell. I’m wondering if it was the brand we used (we used Duck Tape brand and some other generic brand from Walmart) – have you noticed this problem? or come up with a solution? Help! =O

QueenBee – I used Duck brand duct tapes too. Never noticed an odor. Perhaps you are storing them in an airtight container so you notice it more? I don’t know what to suggest. Anyone else have this problem?

Huh. We do keep them in an airtight container… This morning I went and investigated further (and held a blind ‘scent test’ with the kids). It seems that two are fine and two have a strong (yucky) smell. I think that either (a) one of the brands is the culprit (since you haven’t noticed anything with Duck I’m guessing it’s the other brand) or (b) different patterns/textures have different odors (it seems like the purses with shine are worse).
Thanks for the response!! Now I’m on a mission to buy more duct tape and re-make some purses. Two of my girls that realized theirs don’t have the problem and are airing them out (they were stored with the yucky ones); they are planning to start using them so the others want ‘good’ ones, too. =)

Hi! I just came over from Dollar Store Crafts. I had to click on your link since we share such a similar name (I guess great minds…) :) I liked your cork bath mat and updates. Very cool! I guess sometimes you just have to go with your gut, huh? I also like your fabric brooches. There are so many of them out there nowadays and yours are unique!

Wow… making your own paper lamps? how ingenious! Too bad i’m in the southern portion of CA. Maybe next time I’m up visiting my sister, it’ll coincide with one of your craft workshops! :) love your site (and the ideas!)!

I love the lanterns. Sorry the class was cancelled. I’m too far away to get to your classes. :( So, can’t wait to get the instructions!
